NSU Hosts Roundtable on Generative AI, Student Cheating and Academic Ethics. North South University’s Center for Social Impact and Sustainability (CSIS) organized a roundtable discussion titled “A Roundtable on Generative AI, Students’ Cheating and Ethics” at the university’s Syndicate Hall on 16 February 2026. The session aimed to explore the growing impact of artificial intelligence on academic integrity, learning practices, and ethical standards in higher education.
The discussion was chaired by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury of North South University, while Professor Sharif Nurul Ahkam, Director of the Center for Social Impact and Sustainability, served as the moderator. The event brought together senior academics and experts from different disciplines to share insights on the challenges and opportunities posed by generative AI in education.
Among the speakers were Professor Halimur Rashid Khan, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, Professor Norman K. Swazo from the Office of Research and the Department of History and Philosophy, Khondker Md Nahin Mamun, Assistant Professor and Chair of International Business, Farigh Mahzabeen from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mohammad Shamsuzzaman from the Department of English and Modern Languages.
The roundtable highlighted concerns over the misuse of AI tools for academic dishonesty, while also recognizing the potential of AI to enhance teaching, research, and learning outcomes. Speakers emphasized the importance of ethical guidelines, institutional policies, and awareness among students and faculty to ensure responsible use of emerging technologies.
University officials and faculty members participated in the session, engaging in discussions on policy development, academic integrity frameworks, and future directions for AI integration in higher education.
Organizers stated that the roundtable was part of NSU’s ongoing efforts to promote ethical academic practices and foster informed dialogue on technological innovation in education.
