North South University Celebrates Academic Excellence at 26th Convocation. The North South University campus was a scene of triumph and celebration on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, as 3,322 students crossed the stage for the institution’s 26th Convocation. The ceremony marked a historic transition for both undergraduate and graduate candidates, ending their academic chapter and launching a new generation of professionals into the global workforce.
The proceedings were chaired by Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Adviser to the Ministry of Education, who formally conferred the degrees upon the graduates. He was joined by SMA Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, who delivered the keynote convocation address, and UGC member Mohammad Anwar Hossen as the special guest. The presence of Aziz Al Kaiser, Chairman of the NSU Board of Trustees, alongside distinguished board members and university leadership, added to the gravity of the occasion.
The day began with the traditional academic procession, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran and the national anthem. Convocation Marshal Professor Md Mamun Molla officially welcomed the guests, setting the stage for a day of reflection and ambition. During his address, Board of Trustees Chairman Aziz Al Kaiser reminded the class of 2026 that they carry the weight of the future on their shoulders, urging them to lead with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to serving humanity.
Academic excellence was a central theme of the event, highlighted by the presentation of gold medals to the university’s top achievers. Mahira Islam Asfie, a Bachelor of Pharmacy graduate, and Mehrub Mobin Bhuiyan, an MBA graduate, were both honored with the prestigious Chancellor’s Gold Medal for their respective programs. Additionally, eight students were recognized with the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal for maintaining the highest standards in fields ranging from English and Computer Science to Policy Governance and Biotechnology.
In his address, Convocation Speaker SMA Faiz praised the graduates for their resilience, noting that their time at NSU had broadened their imaginations to meet the expectations of a modern world. This sentiment was echoed by Vice-Chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, who expressed immense pride in the graduating cohort, emphasizing that their degrees come with the responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future.
The atmosphere turned poignant as Valedictorian Mahira Islam Asfie took the podium. She urged her peers to look beyond their diplomas and use their shared values to create lasting social impact. Her call to action resonated through the hall, underscoring the university’s mission of producing socially responsible leaders.
As the formal ceremony drew to a close, Education Adviser Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar provided a final charge to the alumni, stating that education must serve the public good above all else. He encouraged the graduates to wield their newly acquired knowledge with social responsibility and honesty. The first day of the two-day celebration concluded with a vibrant cultural program, allowing the graduates one final moment of camaraderie before they depart the campus to begin their professional journeys.
