NSU attends APSCO CubeSat Competition Summer Camp in Xi’an, China. A research team from North South University (NSU) recently attended the APSCO CubeSat Competition (ACC) summer camp held in the historic city of Xi’an in China. CubeSats are a class of nano-satellites. The ACC summer camp was held between August 12 – 25, 2026.
The North South University research team was led by Dr. Shahnewaz Siddique from NSU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
During the summer camp, the NSU team attended hands-on training on the different subsystems of CubeSats, such as the onboard computer, control system, communication system, power system, structure integration, thermal management and ground station interfacing. The hands-on training was held on the campus of Northwestern Polytechnical University, a top ranked university in China.
To attend the ACC, the NSU team had to go through a rigorous qualification process. Initially, the NSU team responded to a call for participation issued by the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO).
SPARRSO is the focal agency for Asia Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) in Bangladesh. To qualify for the ACC, the NSU team submitted detailed CubeSat designs that were evaluated and accepted by the APSCO expert panel, paving the way for NSU’s participation in the summer camp.
The next step for the NSU team is to build, test and validate the engineering model of the CubeSat.
