NSU Hosts lecture titled “Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Reshaping the Family, Career and Interpersonal Relationship by Young Professionals”. North South University’s (NSU) Center for Peace Studies (CPS) Organized a Lecture on “Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Reshaping the Family, Career, and Interpersonal Relationships by Young Professionals” on 14 October 2026.

Major General (Retd.) Ibne Fazal Shayekhuzzaman delivered the keynote speech. The welcome speech was delivered by the Director of CPS, Professor Dr. M Jashim Uddin, and the NSU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, was present as the Special Guest.

In the welcome speech, Professor Dr. M Jashim Uddin stated that peace begins not only between nations but also within individuals, families, institutions, and communities. He added that we must therefore recognize the importance of understanding human behavior and managing conflict in our daily lives.

The keynote speaker, Major General (Retd.) Ibne Fazal Shayekhuzzaman, addressed that the growth in life depends on three things: i) academic and professional achievements, ii) IQ that is God-gifted, and iii) Interpersonal skills, including leadership and emotional privileges. And interestingly, 20% of success depends on cognitive learning, and the remaining 80% depends on interpersonal relationships and the interconnection of mind, heart, and soul. The important thing is how one really reacts to a situation and manages emotions with humility. That is what a leader must have. He added that the function of leaders is to create more leaders, not followers. He further said that a comfort zone is the biggest enemy to personal growth and noted a few attributes of a narcissistic person. Among the critical issues he discussed, he emphasized that emotional intelligence (EI) is key to family bonding, and everyone must pay due attention to their parents. Regarding the technological singularity and human progress, he urged vigilance and a balance between technology and human social interaction.

After the lecture, the NSU Pro-VC Professor Nasar U. Ahmed offered a vote of thanks, shared his leadership experiences, and recommended Daniel Goleman’s book for further reading. Professor Dr. M Jashim Uddin then delivered the closing remarks and highlighted his experience in Japan and the US, where EI is integrated into academic disciplines to build youth leadership, a practice that should be adopted in Bangladesh. Following the question-and-answer session, the lecture series ended.
