NSU SBE: Bangladesh’s First Globally Accredited Business School

NSU SBE: Bangladesh’s First Globally Accredited Business School. The academic landscape in Bangladesh reached a historic turning point when North South University’s School of Business and Economics (SBE) became the first institution in the country to receive prestigious international accreditation. This milestone was achieved through the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), a leading specialized accreditation body based in the United States. Since earning this recognition in 2015, the SBE has consistently demonstrated that its teaching standards and curriculum design are on par with global benchmarks, focusing heavily on preparing students with the practical skills required by the modern international workforce.

The school operates with a comprehensive academic structure that includes highly regarded departments such as Accounting and Finance, Economics, Management, and Marketing and International Business. These departments drive the success of the BBA, MBA, and Executive MBA programs, which have become synonymous with quality business education in the region. Further expanding its global footprint, the SBE secured membership in the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS) in the United Kingdom in 2020. This historic first for a Bangladeshi business school ensures that degrees earned at NSU are viewed with the same competitive value as those from top-tier British universities, opening new doors for graduates in the global job market.

Continuing its journey toward even higher excellence, the SBE is currently making significant progress toward achieving accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Known worldwide as the most elite hallmark of business education, AACSB recognition would further solidify NSU’s reputation among the world’s best colleges. Additionally, the school is advancing toward the South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS) accreditation, a benchmark governed by AMDISA that emphasizes continuous improvement and regional institutional mentoring. These efforts reflect a deep-seated commitment to maintaining a student-centered learning environment that evolves with industry needs.

While business education remains a flagship, North South University’s engineering departments have also reached world-class standards. The Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Civil and Environmental Engineering programs are all accredited by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) under the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). Since 2023, these programs have been part of the Washington Accord, meaning NSU engineering degrees are now recognized by all signatory nations across the globe. Notably, the Civil and Environmental Engineering program was the first in Bangladesh to be recognized under the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) manual, proving that NSU remains at the forefront of technical and professional education in the 21st century.
