NSU Law Honors Newly Enrolled Bar Council & High Court Advocates. North South University’s (NSU) Department of Law, in collaboration with the North South University Law & Mooting Society, held a reception ceremony at Syndicate Hall to honor NSU law graduates who had been newly enrolled as Advocates of the Bangladesh Bar Council and the High Court Division on 11 September 2026. During the ceremony, the department presented the advocates with tokens of appreciation to celebrate their professional milestone. The honorees actively participated by sharing insights into their career journeys, covering their examination strategies, academic planning, and practical courtroom experiences.
The ceremony brought together key administrative and academic leadership of North South University. Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University, was present as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Special Guest Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, NSU. Professor Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, chaired the ceremony, while Professor Ishtiaque Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Law, delivered the opening remarks.
In his speech, Chief Guest Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury expressed strong confidence that the Department of Law will continue to mark its excellence across the judiciary, the courts, and all other legal arenas. He noted that despite being a relatively young department, it is performing exceptionally well. He urged the law graduates to rise above conventional thinking, emphasizing his vision for NSU alumni to be recognized for their remarkable contributions to Bangladesh’s legal system.
In his speech as the special guest, Professor Abdur Rob Khan noted that the courtroom provides a rich environment for real-world experience, marking the true starting point of a legal career. He emphasized that as alumni of an institution defined by excellence, the new advocates are expected to make a distinct impact in the legal arena and actively uphold NSU’s brand reputation. He concluded by assuring that the university remains fully committed to creating and expanding opportunities for its law students.
In his speech, the Session Chair, Professor Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, emphasized that the recent influx of newly enrolled lawyers reflects a major achievement not just for the law department, but for the entire university. He encouraged the advocates to foster strong unity within their respective bar associations and expressed his gratitude to the faculty members, the Office of Student Affairs, and the alumni who actively supported the students throughout their journeys.
In his opening address, Professor Ishtiaque Ahmed commended the graduates on their outstanding achievements and welcomed them into a dignified professional chapter. He stated that the practice of law demands strict adherence to professional integrity and legal ethics. Emphasizing their broader responsibility to society, he reminded the advocates that they act as officers of the court and vital watchdogs of the rule of law. He concluded by encouraging them to dedicate a portion of their practice to pro bono work for the nation’s greater good.
Following the event, the advocates joined current law students and faculty members for a commemorative group photo. The organizers expressed their hope to host similar programs with North South University law alumni in the future, establishing a collaborative platform where current students can gain mentorship, career guidance, and practical insights directly from practicing legal professionals.
