NSU Launches the 4th International Language League | Bangladesh’s Largest Language Competition. North South University (NSU) has launched the fourth edition of the Bakeman’s Biscuits International Language League, Bangladesh’s largest language-based competition. Organized by the Department of English & Modern Languages at North South University, the competition is sponsored by Bakeman’s Biscuits, the premium brand of Akij Bakers Limited.

From 28 June to 10 October 2026, this nationwide competition is expected to bring together nearly 100,000 students from schools, colleges, and universities across Bangladesh. The event aims to unite language enthusiasts in a remarkable celebration of linguistic excellence, creativity, and multilingual proficiency.

The inauguration of the latest edition commenced with a press conference at the Syndicate Hall of NSU. Among those present were Prof. Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of North South University; Prof. Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Nazia Manzoor, Chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages, Senior Lecturer Mehedi Hasan, and Shafiqul Islam Tushar, Executive Director of Marketing at Akij Bakers Limited, whose organization continues its unwavering support as the title sponsor of the event.

The divisional qualifying rounds will be held throughout August and September at 20 venues across Dhaka and all other divisions of the country. The competition will be promoted at the grassroots level through the support of 400 educational institutions and a network of more than 1,000 campus ambassadors. The Dhaka Divisional Round will take place on 2 October at the NSU campus, followed by the National Grand Final on 9 October, with the competition concluding through an Award Ceremony on 10 October.

As a significant step towards expanding its global reach, this year’s edition will also welcome international participants, who will be able to compete online in Chinese, German, and French language categories.

The 2026 edition features five languages: English, Bangla, Chinese, German, and French. This year’s competition is structured around seven distinct segments, designed to assess participants’ linguistic abilities across a wide range of skills. Winners in each category will receive certificates and medals, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners, respectively.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Md. Shafiqul Islam Tushar, Executive Director of Akij Bakers Limited, said:

“The people of this country sacrificed their lives for the Bengali language, and in recognition of that sacrifice, our Language Martyrs’ Day is observed worldwide as International Mother Language Day. An initiative that celebrates multiple languages is truly commendable and will undoubtedly help prepare future generations to compete on the global stage.”
