NSU and BSMS Host Day-Long Program on Simulation and Digital Innovation. North South University (NSU), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Society for Modeling and Simulation (BSMS), successfully organized a day-long program featuring seminars, poster presentations, institutional visits, and international collaboration meetings on simulation science and digital innovation on 12 June 2026 at NSU’s Audi-801.
The event brought together distinguished academics, researchers, industry professionals, and students from leading universities, organizations, and industries across Bangladesh. The program highlighted the growing importance of modeling and simulation technologies in addressing contemporary challenges in science, engineering, healthcare, industry, and digital transformation.
The program was graced by Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor of North South University, as the Chief Guest. The Special Guests included Professor Dr. Lin Zhang, Professor at Beihang University and President of the Asia Simulation Federation (ASIASIM), and Dr. Jingnong Weng, Professor at Beihang University and Secretary General of ASIASIM.
The day commenced with a seminar titled “Simulation for Everything: The Future of Digital Innovation.” The seminar was inaugurated by its Chair, Professor Shazzad Hossain, Dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (SEPS), North South University. In his opening remarks, he noted that simulation technologies have become essential tools for innovation, enabling efficient analysis, design optimization, and informed decision-making. He also reaffirmed North South University’s commitment to advancing research and international collaboration and expressed hope that the seminar would foster new ideas, partnerships, and research opportunities.
The keynote addresses were delivered by Prof. Dr. Lin Zhang, Prof. Dr. Jingnong Weng, and Professor Mamun Molla, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics at North South University. The speakers emphasized the transformative role of simulation technologies in advancing scientific research, engineering design, medical innovation, manufacturing, transportation, and numerous other disciplines. Through a series of presentations and demonstrations, they showcased real-world applications of simulation technology and highlighted how digital modeling is reshaping innovation and decision-making across sectors.
Addressing the audience, Chief Guest Professor Nasar U. Ahmed remarked that simulation-based research and development have become increasingly important worldwide due to their efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and ability to validate innovative ideas before practical implementation. He noted that simulation technologies are now widely used across science, engineering, healthcare, business, and many other fields. He further emphasized North South University’s commitment to supporting simulation-based research by developing modern laboratories, research centers, and advanced computing facilities that enable faculty members, researchers, and students to conduct high-quality simulation studies and experiments.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Professor Dr. Mohammad Monir Uddin, Professor of the Department of Mathematics and Physics at NSU and President of BSMS. He expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests, speakers, participants, organizers, and sponsors for their contributions to the event’s success.
In the afternoon, a poster presentation session was held, where researchers from universities and institutions across the country showcased their ongoing research and development in modeling, simulation, and digital technologies. The session provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and networking among researchers and professionals.
The international delegates subsequently visited the Confucius Institute (CI) at North South University, the first Chinese-language education center in Bangladesh. They also toured several state-of-the-art simulation laboratories and research centers across the NSU campus, where ongoing simulation-based research projects were demonstrated.
After that, delegates from ASIASIM met with members of BSMS at the NSU Syndicate Hall for an engaging exchange of views on the future development of simulation science and international collaboration. During the meeting, the President and Secretary General of ASIASIM expressed their appreciation for BSMS’s activities and achievements in promoting simulation research and education in Bangladesh. They also offered valuable recommendations and strategic guidance to strengthen future initiatives, international partnerships, and professional development programs.
