NSU’s CSIS organized Banking & Beyond Seminar on Financial Literacy. North South University’s (NSU) Center for Social Impact & Sustainability (CSIS), in collaboration with the NSU Accounting Club, organized ‘Banking & Beyond: Seminar on Financial Literacy’, presented by City Bank PLC, on 19 July 2026 (Friday), bringing together academia and industry to promote financial awareness among university students.

The seminar was designed to bridge classroom learning with practical financial knowledge, equipping participants with a stronger understanding of banking fundamentals, personal finance, and informed financial decision-making. Through interactive discussions and industry insights, students gained practical perspectives on responsible financial management and the evolving banking landscape.

The event was graced by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University and Chairman of Grameen Bank, whose address underscored the importance of financial literacy as a lifelong skill. Also in attendance were Professor AKM Waresul Karim, Dean of the School of Business and Economics; Professor Sharif Nurul Ahkam, Director of the Center for Social Impact & Sustainability (CSIS), Department of Accounting & Finance; Dr. FJ Mohaimen, Chair of the Department of Accounting & Finance; distinguished faculty members; and senior representatives from City Bank PLC.

Mr. Subir Kumar Kundu, Senior Executive Vice President, Head of Products, Acquisitions & Chief Bancassurance Officer, City Bank PLC, delivered the keynote session. Drawing on his extensive industry experience, he shared practical insights into banking services, personal financial planning, and responsible financial practices, while encouraging students to build strong financial habits and prepare for future professional success.

The seminar also encouraged participants to explore personal finance beyond the classroom, emphasizing the importance of banking inclusion, informed financial choices, and continuous learning. It provided an engaging platform for students to interact with industry leaders, faculty members, and peers, fostering meaningful dialogue between academia and the financial sector.

Through this collaborative initiative, the NSU Accounting Club, CSIS, and City Bank PLC reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing financial literacy and empowering students with the knowledge and perspectives necessary to navigate an increasingly dynamic financial environment.
