NSU Hosts Freshers’ Orientation for Newly Launched BSS in Anthropology Program. North South University’s (NSU) Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS) organizes the Freshers’ Orientation Program for the newly launched Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) in Anthropology program for the Summer 2026 semester on 19 May 2026 at the Syndicate Hall of the university.
The event marked a significant milestone for the university as it welcomed the first-ever cohort of students to the Anthropology program. Faculty members, university officials, students, and guardians attended the orientation program.
Delivering the opening remarks, Dr. Abdul Baten, Coordinator of the Anthropology Program and Assistant Professor of PSS, welcomed the students and encouraged them to embrace the new academic journey with curiosity and enthusiasm. He said, “You are becoming part of a completely new academic journey at North South University. Anthropology offers a unique opportunity to learn about people, cultures, societies, and human experiences from diverse perspectives. I encourage you to embrace this new journey with curiosity, openness, and enthusiasm.”
In his welcome note, Dr. Rizwan Khair, Chair of the Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS), highlighted the importance of critical thinking and intellectual curiosity. He remarked, “Anthropology is a fascinating discipline that helps us understand human society, culture, and history. As students of Anthropology, you must learn to think critically and analytically about the world and its complexities.”
Professor Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, Director of SIPG, stated, “This curriculum has been designed following internationally recognized academic standards and practices. It is practical, applied, and relevant to contemporary global realities.”
Professor Bulbul Siddiqi, Department of Political Science and Sociology and Director of the Confucius Institute at NSU, introduced the Anthropology program to the students and shared his emotional connection with the initiative. He remarked, “This is a very emotional and proud moment for me. When I first joined this university, I was the only anthropologist here. Today, we are launching a full-fledged Anthropology program.”
He further stated, “You are joining one of the leading universities in Bangladesh. We are developing collaborations with universities in different countries to create international academic opportunities for our students. We are committed to providing you with one of the best Anthropology learning experiences in Bangladesh. We hope your journey here becomes memorable and meaningful, and we look forward to working together with you.”
Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, emphasized the academic strength of NSU and expressed optimism about the future of the new program. He stated, “North South University has a strong academic foundation supported by highly capable and dedicated faculty members. I believe this Anthropology program will soon become one of the most vibrant and promising programs in the country.” He also highlighted that “Anthropology is a discipline that explores human history, culture, and society through multiple perspectives and approaches.”
Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer of NSU, congratulated the students as members of the inaugural batch of the program. He said, “You are the pioneers and the very first batch of the BSS in the Anthropology program at NSU. From today, you are officially part of the NSU family and will enjoy all the privileges and opportunities the university offers.”
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nasrin Siraj, Assistant Professor of PSS, who expressed gratitude to all guests, faculty members, students, and organizers for making the event successful.
