NSU celebrates Bangla New Year 1433 with Cultural Festivities. North South University (NSU) welcomed the Bangla New Year 1432 with a day-long celebration of enthusiasm and vibrant events on campus today (Tuesday), reflecting the rich heritage and traditions of Bengali culture.

The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Mr. M A Kashem, founder life member and former chairman of the NSU Board of Trustees; Special guests included Mr. Benajir Ahmed, founder life member and former chairman of the Board of Trustees; Mrs. Duluma Ahmed, member of the Board of Trustees; Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, pro-vice-chancellor; and Professor Abdur Rob Khan, treasurer of NSU.

Mr. M A Kashem said, “Pahela Baishakh is one of the biggest festivals for Bengalis and is deeply rooted in our cultural heritage. It brings renewed enthusiasm and inspiration, encouraging us to move forward by leaving behind the failures of the past year. It is encouraging to see NSU students celebrating the day with such vibrancy and spirit.”

Mr. Benajir Ahmed said, “This day is a significant marker of Bengali identity. We must move forward with renewed determination, leaving behind past grievances. NSU celebrates the occasion every year with great enthusiasm. I wish everyone peace, happiness, and prosperity in the new year.”

Professor Abdur Rob Khan said, “The new year opens up new possibilities and inspires us to revive ourselves. Student participation is crucial to sustaining the university’s progress and development. I believe they will become more responsible and contribute meaningfully to the country’s advancement in the coming year.”

In his closing remarks, Professor Nasar U. Ahmed extended greetings to the university’s faculty, students, and staff. He said, “The Bangla New Year is an integral part of our culture and heritage. Inspired by its spirit, we must work together to build a knowledge-based, humane, and prosperous society. NSU will continue to uphold these values in the years ahead.”

The day-long celebrations were organised by the North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS), while the North South University Social Services Club arranged the Baishakhi fair. The cultural programmes throughout the day featured dance, music, and flash mobs, alongside traditional attractions such as puppet shows, Baul songs, and a vibrant Baishakhi procession. With students’ active participation, the entire campus turned festive and lively. Several thousand students attended the Baishakhi fair.
